Kylie Verzosa guarantees Philippines’ 6th Miss International crown

“We’ll have six.”
That’s a confident-sounding Binibining Pilipinas-International 2016 Kylie Verzosa pretty much assuring the country that she will win in this year’s Miss International beauty pageant.
Even though the prestigious international pageant is not happening until October 27, Kylie is already making her bold declaration this early. If she ultimately succeeds, she will become the sixth Filipina to win the coveted crown after Gemma Cruz-Araneta, Aurora Pijuan, Melanie Marquez, Precious Lara Quigaman and Bea Rose Santiago.
During the recent bloggers’ conference of this year’s Binibining Pilipinas winners at the Gateway Tower Gallery in Araneta Center, the girls were asked how prepared they are for their respective international competitions now on a scale of 1 to 10. Kylie was the only one who answered 10.
The 24-year-old Business Management graduate and former pre-school teacher from Baguio City said that her competitive nature stems from her strong desire to win the Miss Universe Philippines crown that ultimately went to Maxine Medina.
Kylie recalled that when she first joined the Binibining Pilipinas pageant last year, she was still disappointed despite making it to the Top 15 semifinals and winning the Bb. Philippine Airlines special award.
“When I made the Top 15 last year, I had a nice view of the other girls who won the crown but it was still very upsetting,” she shared.
So when she decided to give it another shot, Kylie said she was eyeing the top crown. Indeed, she emerged as one of the pre-pageant favorites and looked poised to win it all after winning three special awards, namely Bb. Photogenic or The Face of Binibining Pilipinas, the Manila Bulletin Readers Choice, and She’s So Jag.
“I wanted Miss Universe and that was my goal. And when you get into something, you should aim for the top,” she pointed out.
During the question and answer portion, Kylie was asked by judge Miss U.S.A. 2015 Olivia Jordan why she deserved to win a Bb. Pilipinas crown.
“The person who deserves to win Binibining Pilipinas crown tonight is the person who has worked hard for it and is willing to do everything to continue the legacy of the Philippines. She is confident with an attitude and has a personality and I believe I am her,” she replied.
As confident as she sounded, Kylie admitted that she had some doubts about her chances during those nerve-wracking moments when the judges were deliberating prior to the winners’ announcement.
“After deliberations, I didn’t come out very sure I was going to win Universe so I was ready for anything. So when my name was called, I was ready. Now that I got a crown for myself, it felt so good. I wanted to cry.”
But as much as she’s very much ready for Miss International, Kylie recognizes that the pageant now on its 53rd year and more often than not, takes place in Tokyo, Japan, is not the same as Miss Universe.
“Miss International is more prim and proper. It’s held in Japan so it’s more formal. You have to know the proper etiquette, you have to have knowledge of the Japanese culture and know what Miss International is looking for,” she noted.

The road to happily ever after

Daniel Matsunaga and Erich Gonzales have just marked their first year as a couple.
During a recent press conference for “Be My Lady,” the couple revealed they simply dined out to mark the special occasion.
“Hindi na (mahalaga) ’yung mga material things… kasi hindi naman natin ’yan nadadala sa heaven, so it’s really like more of spending time with the one that you love po,” she told Pep.
In a joint appearance on “Tonight With Boy Abunda” recently, Daniel expressed his desire to eventually marry Erich, whom he considers “The One.”
“That’s why we’re together… I wouldn’t be in a serious relationship if I wouldn’t want to get married,” he said.
He wants to have a big family someday, a brood of up to 10 kids.
Daniel maintained he is saving up for their future. “You really have to save (money) if you want to be with someone. And I want to be the one to take care of everything in the future,” he said.
When show host Boy Abunda asked when they think is the right time to settle down, the two cooed, “In God’s perfect time.”
Taking it slow
As for Matteo Guidicelli and Sarah Geronimo, they are taking it slow.

In an interview with “TV Patrol,” Matteo refuted rumors they are already secretly engaged.
“No, (we’re not engaged) but everything’s going smoothly, everything’s going well (in our relationship). We’re both busy with our jobs and we’re enjoying every minute and hour of our relationship,” he said.
‘Sorry for the confusion’
Also refuting talk on engagement matters is actress Angelica Panganiban.
Rumors that she is engaged with boyfriend John Lloyd Cruz emerged over the weekend after she posted on Instagram a photo of herself wearing a ring.
Fans asked the actress if she is set to walk down the aisle soon. She replied, “Ay hindi ako engaged. Infinity ring po (’yung suot ko), hindi solo diamond ring. Sorry naman sa confusion.”

Oscar dream comes true for boy from Cavite

“I used to daydream as a boy in Cavite City of being here receiving an Oscar and here I am living the dream!” Ronnie del Carmen said backstage at the 88th Academy Awards where “Inside Out,” which he codirected, won the best animated feature prize.

The University of Santo Tomas alumnus has racked up several firsts in his career—including being the first Filipino to codirect a film at Pixar Studios, the animation movie powerhouse, and the first Filipino to earn an Oscar best original screenplay nomination for “Inside Out,” which he shared with Pete Docter, Meg LeFauve and Josh Cooley.

“This day is incredible!” Del Carmen said. “Inside Out’s” triumph marked the eighth time Pixar has won the best animated feature trophy.

“I am so grateful to be part of this movie, working with Pete Docter and being part of Pixar! This movie would not be made if our champion, John Lasseter (chief creative officer), did not push for it and support it all the way,” he added.
Ronnie and wife Theresa proudly wore creations by Hollywood red carpet designer, Filipino Oliver Tolentino. Ronnie wore a midnight blue tux jacket, made of piƱa, the Filipino fabric made from pineapple leaves, while Theresa stunned in a green lace gown.
The Cavite City native said that at the Academy’s hot ticket bash after the show, the Governors Ball, and several Oscar after-parties, many admired his tuxedo by Tolentino.
“As an immigrant from the Philippines, I kept my goals modest and stayed realistic,” Del Carmen said about his journey from Cavite to being one of the top animators and storytellers in the United States.

“Because where I come from, we worked so hard for so little back then. So this means so much to our family, for our story,” he added. For more ABS-CBN entertainment news try to check our latest news at pinoy channel tv ABS-CBN. Enjoy!!!
